We are thrilled to welcome Adam and his quartet playing township jazz for our 'eclectics' world music series.
South African chromatic harmonica virtuoso & pianist Adam Glasser has a unique repertoire drawing on SA Township standards as well a vast range of modern jazz referencing the great Toots Thielemans.
Adam has released two critically acclaimed albums 'Free at First' ( Winner - Best Jazz album South African Music Awards 2010 ) and 'Mzansi' (SAMA 2012 Nominated).
His harmonica can be heard on countless sessions notably the title track of Abdullah Ibrahim's album 'The Balance'. Past work on piano & harmonica include over several decades Dudu Pukwana, Martha Reeves, Jimmy Witherspoon, Sting, The Eurythmics, Joe Zawinul, Incognito, Pino Palladino and Hugh Masekela as well as collaborations with many leading musicians on the UK Jazz scene.
As part of the concert Adam will fascinating anecdotes about his journey with the harmonica and his long association with some of the legendary figures in South African township jazz.
