Adrian Whittle

“Adrian is a writer and photographer. His work has been exhibited in the Barbican, the Maison Bertaux Gallery in Soho and the Jeannie Avent Gallery in Dulwich. He will often spend significant amounts of time with his subjects, listening to their stories and answering their questions before photographing them. This exchange sometimes leads to a more sustained connection or friendship with the person being photographed. It can also lead to unexpected experiences, including singing Hindi film songs with a group of sweepers in Mumbai and being quizzed on the British Royal family by tipsy agricultural workers in a remote part of Myanmar”

Simon Garwood

I am a professional, artist based in Sydenham, South East London. Although self taught, I obtained an MSc in Computer Graphics from Middlesex University in the late 1980’s but never pursued a career in the digital arts. However, my interest in the subject has influenced my style of painting that I would describe as ‘interpreted reality’.

I generally paint in oils due to their opaque and forgiving quality but will use other mediums if appropriate for a particular piece. In terms of subject matter I do not have a preference as I am more interested in experimenting with value and tone to produce something that is convincing but not overly hyper realistic. I frequently work from reference photos but I will only use images that I have taken myself as it is important for me to be able to say that each piece is all my own work.

Jennika Argent

“My work is inspired by the sense of adventure and discovery I feel when I'm travelling in a new country, encountering new sights, sounds, tastes and smells. Elements that attract me to a scene include reflections, shadows, intersecting angles and repeating lines, which echo my studies in graphic design. I use a colourful palette which reflects the uplifting impact these journeys have on me and my awe for the natural world. I sketch and photograph various angles of my subject matter whilst on location, and then paint in layers of acrylics and oils once Im back home. The exercise of painting has increased my levels of observation and translating how I experience the world around me. For me, this is also an exercise in patience and persistence as well as being a form of meditation”

Arabella Yapp

“I am an artist from South London and studied fine art at Goldsmiths and Middlesex Universities.
I find inspiration in my environment, life events and friends and family. I have lived in a mixed-race English/Jamaican family for the last thirty years and I depict the diversity of the people in my life in my work. I populate my paintings with tiny portraits of the people l love to create imaginary worlds. I use painting to focus deeply on people, places and activities that bring me joy, like a visual gratitude diary.
Swimming and water are a major theme for me and symbolise happiness. I am an ardent swimmer and l share this love of water with my six siblings and have passed this on to my own children who feature swimming and diving in many of my paintings.
I love to use vibrant jewel- like colours. I focus on contrasting colours, trying to make them “sing” and vibrate against each other”

Sylvia Farrow

“I have worked in watercolours for many years, and have now extended my practice to include collage and mixed media. While on holiday and low on paper I started to use tea bags and particularly like the way the sepia tones of the tea give an antique feel to the drawings. Whenever I’m out walking or exploring new places I like to record the things I see as inspiration for my art. I love capturing architectural features, particularly doors and windows which might be old and flaking or rich in carved detail. A recent trip to Genova has been particularly inspiring”

Daphnea Wenham

“Travel has always been at the heart of what drives my creative inspiration.
New places bring with it new sensory experiences.
And they say that we feel most alive when our senses are engaged.
Photography offers me the opportunity to connect to our deeper humanity which is what connects us ultimately to each other.
It is a collection of these experiences and memories that translate into a tapestry of aliveness which enables me to move forward and continue to build on as part of my personal development and art practice.
Photography has allowed me to share these precious moments and expressions of both my own and those of others that are wanting to be told.
For this I am deeply grateful”

Hayley Smeulders

“Hayley’s journey as a wildlife photographer began unexpectedly during the pandemic while living in Zambia. With a long lens and a sense of adventure, she set out on solo safaris to explore the country’s top wildlife spots. Her images, each named after Zambia’s iconic national parks - Lower Zambezi, Liuwa Plains, and South Luangwa - capture those rare, magical moments when animals pause in stillness. With a background in digital product design, Hayley brings a unique eye to her wildlife photography. Her work invites viewers to experience the beauty and serenity of Zambia’s wild inhabitants”
