Screen Printing - Introduction to Fabric printing

Learn how to screen-print patterns onto fabric in a fun and busy workshop at the gorgeous Paxton Centre art space.
About this Event
The aim of the workshop is to make fabric printing accessible to everyone, giving you the skills needed to print your own fabric, gifts and cards at home with minimal equipment needs. With a range of floral, botanical and geometric templates to work from, you’ll leave the session with 2 pieces of printed fabric as well as a tote bag with your design.

During this workshop you will:

-Learn how screenprinting works

-Make your own simple stencil using templates provided, or your own ideas.

-Prepare the screen and fabric for printing

-Print 2 pieces of fabric (40x50cm)

-Print a tote bag with your design.

-Learn all the basics to be able to screen print at home

Screen-printing normally requires specialist equipment that can be quite bulky and pricey, needing a lot of space to use and store. With the methods I teach, using small screens and paper stencils, the technique is easy to recreate on a kitchen table, using equipment that is inexpensive and easy to clean up.

This 2 hour workshop will teach you the basic principles of screen printing, using a 1-colour design and an A5 size printing screen. You'll have the opportunity to take a screen-printing kit home with you (see details below), and you may opt for an A4 screen with this kit, which you can use during the workshop if you'd like to produce larger designs.

Want to continue printing at home? Take home an equipment pack with everything you need for only £35. Add this to your ticket when purchasing online.

The kit includes:

-screen

-squeegee

-2 tubes of ink- colours of your choice (selection available at workshop)

-stencil paper

-fabric to print on

-full set of instructions.

To stay safe during this workshop and to give participants more space to work, I have reduced the number of spaces per class from 10 people to 6 people. This gives you the benefit of having more 1-2-1 teaching throughout this fast-paced workshop. All equipment and workspaces will be sanitised between sessions, and I ask that all participants wear masks (unless exempt).
